“My husband is a victim of the corruption within the bank,” said Rama Sehgal, wife of PNB’s Panchkula branch head Ajay Sehgal who committed suicide alleging pressure from two seniors, on Thursday.

Demanding immediate arrest of the two officers who have been booked, Rama, a teacher at a school in Sanawar (HP), said Ajay was in “extreme tension” for the past 2-3 weeks. “My husband confided in me how both JK Gupta and AK Gupta were pressing him to sanction loans to their favourite clients against rules, which he refused several times. So, he was being humiliated,” she said.

The humiliation was seen in cancellation of leave, shifting branch staff, and suspension threats, she said. “He also told me that his two superiors had threatened him that if he resigns and forwards a complaint to bosses in Delhi, they would implicate him in a false corruption case.”

Tears in her eyes, she said “my husband had lost faith in the system and thus took this extreme step, leaving our family forever”. Besides loans too, there were favours sought. “I’ll fight till my husband gets his pride back.”

Sehgal was to turn 52 this July 22, and the family planned a get-together. Son Ojas, pursuing BTech in Patiala, looked shattered. The daughter, who is pursuing BTech in Chandigarh, was inconsolable too.
