A Punjab Police constable was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the VVIP residential area of Sector 2, here, on Thursday late night.

Police station Sector 3 station house officer Harjit Kaur said that Mangal Singh, 45, was deputed as a guard with the security detail of Punjab minister for industry and commerce, technical education and industrial training Madan Mohal Mittal.

At around 1am, a gunshot sound pierced the area and Mangal was found lying in a pool of blood. A local police team rushed him to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector-16, where he was declared brought dead. A team of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was also called.

Chandigarh DSP Ashish Kapoor said “It could not yet be ascertained whether this is a suicide or an accidental death. This can be clarified after the CFSL team submits its reports.”

Preliminary investigations reveal that strained relationship with his wife could be the reason for the suicide.
