Nahan police to crackdown on drunken driving

Increase in the number of road accidents in the district have become a cause of concern for the district police and the administration. Over-speeding and drunken driving are the major reasons behind road accidents.Superintendent of police Rameshwar Thakur stated this during a press-meet programme in the presence of deputy commissioner Padam Singh Chauhan.

Increase in the number of road accidents in the district have become a cause of concern for the district police and the administration. Over-speeding and drunken driving are the major reasons behind road accidents.Superintendent of police Rameshwar Thakur stated this during a press-meet programme in the presence of deputy commissioner Padam Singh Chauhan.


Thakur said a special campaign would be launched against over-speeding and drunken driving. The SP said 44 people were killed in road accidents in 2011 and 53 have been killed this year so far. He said the law and order situation in the district remained calm, peaceful and under control during the past seven months.

Besides, the district police have set a record in solving many crime cases and have also helped curb illegal mining and illegal transportation of liquor and cattle. He said 20 cases had been lodged under the NDPS Act this year so far. The police was taking strict against the traders of drug suppliers in the district. He said four drug peddlers were in judicial remand.
