Students in the government schools are yet to get the new coloured workbooks which were to be distributed at the beginning of the current session by the UT education department.
As per the earlier claims of education department, the books were to be made available to students of Classes 1 to 5 on the first day of the session. The department was supposed to send these books to the city’s 108 government schools.
The idea behind distributing these workbooks is to make students have a better understanding of the concepts with the help of pictures and illustrations in the workbooks.
According to the officials, 27 workbooks are to be printed for various subjects and in different languages for the students.
“We are yet to get the workbooks, though textbooks have already been distributed to the students,” a government school principal said.
As per the sources, the set deadline for the vendor to provide the workbooks was April 4 but the department is yet to receive the complete lot of books as the vendor has sent the books in separate lots.
“The books will be distributed to the students this week as the received books from the vendor have been sent to the lab for the final approval of the quality of the paper used. We did not get the complete order at once from the vendor which created little problem for us,” said an official.
Sources also revealed that the department had deputed a government teacher from Sector 33 government school to get the work done on time but the department is not supposed to make use of the teacher for any non-academic purposes.
