Panjab University (PU) has invited applications for admission to its two year MSc course in stem cell and tissue engineering. July 2 is the last date for receiving applications for the course that has 15 seats.
For the self-financed course, students can submit the duly filled forms in the office of the centre for stem cell and tissue engineering, Sector 14, from 9am to 5pm.
Students who have passed their BSc in medical sciences/life sciences or basic medical science with 50% marks are eligible to apply for the course, which is considered as one of the cutting edge courses in the field of re-generative medicine, a spokesman said.
Admissions will be based on an entrance test to be held at the centre for stem cell and tissue engineering and excellence in biomedical sciences on July 14 at 10am.
"The course module in this subject has been planned to equip students with a sound background, both in theoretical as well as experimental aspects of stem cell and tissue engineering. Additionally, students will also learn laboratory management programs and various ethical issues that concern stem cell and tissue engineering research," the spokesman said.
He added students would be encouraged to build up their research acumen by developing individualised projects using different types of stem cells, experimental approaches and human disease models.
After completion of the course work, students can opt for careers as research scientists, professionals in universities, hospitals, industry, or could also start their private ventures.
