The police challaned 653 persons violating traffic norms at 25 special check-points on the eve of New Year. SSP (traffic and security) Maneesh Chaudhry said the department had set up 25 special check-points in the city to crack the whip on drunken drivers as well as the violators of other traffic rules. He added the focus was mainly on drunken drivers as of 653 offenders, 107 were found inebriated. The cops impounded 143 vehicles. According to the SSP, the drive was launched to ensure that the innocent, law-abiding citizens do not become victims of rash, negligent and drunken drivers. Sources said most of the violators were from other states, mainly Punjab and Haryana.
