The People’s Awareness Forum, a non-government organisation (NGO), expressed concern over the rampant drug addiction and sale of drugs in Punjab.
The forum’s meeting was held on Wednesday night. NGO People’s Awareness Forum president Prithipal Singh Kapoor presided over the meeting.
He felt the campaign launched by the state government against drug addiction in Punjab was not very forceful and only small time peddlers have been detained while the big fish have escaped the net.
Kapoor said, “The state government should adopt rational approach to end this menace, and equip the de-addiction centres in the state with latest medicines.”
“Grants should be provided to private de-addiction centres and those using brutal methods to prevent the use of drugs among the youth should be stopped,” Kapoor said.
Releasing the proceedings of the meeting, People’s Awareness Forum vice-president KS Chawla and finance secretary DL Dhingra said the meeting also expressed its concern over the alleged failure of the state government in bringing about any perceptible development in the urban towns of the state, which are devoid of all basic civic facilities.
