A Nigerian national was on Sunday arrested for allegedly possessing heroin, which police said, the accused would supply to discotheques in the city. Police said Joel Michael, currently residing in SAS Nagar, was nabbed by its operations cell in Sector 34.
They said 3.5-gm heroin was recovered from Michael's possession.
A case under the provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
The Nigerian national has also been booked under the foreigners act as, police said, he had not registered himself, as is required for all outsiders.
Police said the accused used to allegedly procure the drugs from Delhi.
The accused was produced before the duty magistrate who remanded in police custody till Tuesday.
Further investigation is on into the case, police said, adding that they have sought the accused's custody to bust the suspected drug racket in Chandigarh.
Zirakpur resident held with 7 grams of heroin
Meanwhile, the crime branch of UT police arrested Razia alias Sony, a resident of village Dialpura, Zirakpur, on Saturday and recovered 7 grams of heroin from her possession. The police said the accused ran a dyeing shop in Burail village was a drug addict.
They said the accused started supplying drugs to other to addicts of Burail and would sell one gram of heroin for `3,000.
The police said during interrogation the accused would get the contraband from Haryana. A case under NDPS Act was registered at Sector 34 police station.
