Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday rubbished Congress 'propaganda' regarding the opening of casinos in the state. He clarified that there was no proposal on casinos with the state government.
About the opposition to new taxes by his cousin and People's Party of Punjab president Manpreet Singh Badal, Sukhbir said: "Manpreet has taken a U-turn as he had been advocating new taxes and withdrawal of free power to the farming sector. He's not practising what he's preaching."
Commenting on the leadership of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Sukhbir quipped, "Capt Amarinder Singh is the best person to lead the state Congress as he ensured that the SAD-BJP was re-elected to power. We will rule the state for another 50 years with development-oriented policies."
He was non-committal on appointing a lokpal in the state, as demanded by social activist Anna Hazare. "We have already completed the first phase of governance reforms, which is the best way to ensure transparency and curb corruption." He stated that the state government was set to launch the second-generation reforms, providing 110 services to the public.
