The Union government has not enhanced the compensation to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
Minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju, however, said the government had provided ex gratia to the riot victims through a ‘rehabilitation package’ in 2006 and Rs 532.20 crore had already been disbursed till date by the states and union territories concerned under this package.
Rijiju said the central government had a scheme, ‘Central Assistance to the Civilian Victims of Terrorist/Communal/Naxal Violence’, for the sustenance and maintenance of families of civil victims of terrorist/communal/Naxal violence.
Under this scheme, Rs 3 lakh is given to the next of kin of victims in case of death or at least 50% incapacitation/disability, he said.
