After 48 hours of identifying the main suspect behind the murder of a 14-year-old girl at Peedal village, the police have failed to make any headway.

On Wednesday, Shikha Kaur was shot dead allegedly by her distant cousin, Jagdev Singh, when she along with her friend Amandeep Kaur were on their way to school. Sandeep Kumar of Peedal was arrested on Wednesday night on a charge that his motorcycle was allegedly used in the crime.

Superintendent of police (SP) Kuldeep Singh on Friday said teams had been sent to various places to arrest Jagdev. Sandeep is charged with helping Jagdev in committing the crime, he said.

"Sandeep and Jagdev are friends. We are interrogating Sandeep to get details about Jagdev's whereabouts," the SP said, adding that the motorcycle used in the crime was yet to be found. The SP denied reports that Sandeep had sent the bike to Rajasthan after the crime. "Sandeep has hid the vehicle somewhere near the village. We are hopeful that soon it will be found," he said.

Sandeep is in police custody till November 12.
