CPM central secretariat member and former MP Nilotpal Basu on Saturday said there was no Modi wave in the country. “I have not seen any wave in favour of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the country,” said Basu while talking to mediapersons at Rupnagar.
Basu said non-Congress and non-BJP parties could provide a better alternative to the people and expressed the hope that these parties would join hands to form government on the basis of pro-people policies.
He added that the BJP had spent a whopping 15,000 crore on publicity campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, which was unprecedented. Alleging that corporate world was funding the party, he demanded a probe in this regard.
Basu slammed the BJP for announcing its prime ministerial candidate in advance saying the action of the party was against parliamentary democracy enshrined in the Constitution.
In a parliamentary democracy, prime minister was chosen by the elected members of Parliament, he added.
Basu added that in Punjab people were also unhappy with the “misrule” of the SAD-BJP alliance.
CPM Punjab secretary Charan Singh Virdi, state secretariat members Raghunath Singh, Ram Singh Nur puri, Gurmesh Singh and candidate from Anandpur Sahib constituency Balvir Singh Jadla were also present on the occasion.
