The Punjab government has released the pending amount of Rs 149.53 crore for the post-matric scholarship scheme for 2013-14, leaving no pendency of any such disbursement, SC/BC welfare minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said in a statement here on Thursday.
He said Rs 10.98 crore were disbursed to medical colleges, Rs 74.92 crore to technical institutes, Rs 40.85 crore to the director, public instruction (DPI)-colleges, Rs 15.66 crore to DPI-schools, Rs 2.78 crore to the director, technical education, for ITIs (industrial training institutes), and Rs 4.34 crore to the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Till date, he said, there was no financial pendency with the welfare department for the 2013-14 session.
He added that during the 2013-14 session, the state government has disbursed Rs 327 crore among 2.18 lakh students as maintenance allowance. He said 4,190 institutes were part of the post-matric scholarship scheme.
For the current session (2014-15), Punjab has received Rs 149.67 crore in advance. The online registration figure for the post-matric scholarship scheme touched a record 2.97 lakh applicants.
