The state transport department has decided to do away with the temporary number assigned to a vehicle for a month after purchase. Instead a permanent number would be issued immediately for which a provisional registration certificate (RC) for a specific time would be issued.
After a specific period of time, the provisional RC would be replaced with the permanent one. The motive of the new system is to install high security number plate at the time of purchase of vehicle itself, as installation of high security number plates on all vehicles had been taking too much time and man power.
The agencies hired for installing high security number plates failed to achieve the target in the given time and with purchase of new vehicles the pendency had increasing.
District transport officer (DTO) Anil Garg said, "The new system will minimise the workload of making of high security number plates and the new vehicles will get high security number plates immediately."
He added the new system would be introduced within one week all over the state. It was worth mentioning that over 13 lakh vehicles have been registered with the district transport office, Ludhiana. At least 112 new vehicles are registered with the DTO everyday.
