Punjabi Sufi singer Jyoti Nooran, who recently got married and has been caught in a controversy over her age, will have to stay in the protection home at least till October 30.
Jyoti is fighting a legal battle against her family over her age, after marrying a boy of her choice. She had moved the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking protection from her parents and singer-sister Sultana, accusing the family of trying to eliminate the couple as they were not happy with the marriage.
Justice TPS Maan has fixed the case for October 30 after the counsel of Jyoti’s father sought time to examine the ossification test report of Jyoti.
Jyoti, through her petition, had informed the court that she had married Kunal, resident of her locality in Jalandhar, on August 2. She said Kunal was a property dealer and they both were adults.
After her parents claimed that Jyoti was a minor, the high court on August 21 ordered the singer’s ossification test from Government Multispecialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh. The report put Jyoti’s age between 16½ and 17 with the doctors claiming that it could be slightly more or less.
