Police commissioner, Ambala-Panchkula, Rajbir Deswal sais here on Sunday that they have decided that the women helpline number 1091 would also attend to taking distress calls from "the elderly, infirm, insecure, lonely, vulnerable, sick, victimised and tormented senior citizens".

The police control rooms vehicles could be sent for by the elderly in distress.

A Senior Citizens Cell would be created shortly in the district police offices in the Commissionerate which would be assigned duties to visit identified elders on a regular basis, besides looking into and redressing their grievance.

As demanded by the Senior Citizens Forum of Sector 8, Panchkula, a survey launched last month about the servants, paying guests and seniors would be resumed with the help of trained woman rapid action force staff.

"We are very much concerned about the well-being and security of the elderly. Their experience in life gives us enough to learn from. In the evening of their life, they not only deserve our care and concern but make us take upon ourselves to be their protectors and saviours," Deswal said.
