The SAS Nagar administration has announced that all LPG cylinders in the city will now bear stickers with the words “Prepare and Exercising Vote” to encourage people to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The decision was taken as a part of a special voter awareness campaign under SVEEP programme, aimed at making citizens aware of their right to vote.

Additional deputy commissioner Parveen Kumar Thind, flagging off three- wheelers containing gas cylinders from the district food supply controller office in Phase 2, said, “Approximately 1.25 lakh gas cylinders are consumed in the district every month, while 5,000 cylinders are consumed every day.

Awareness generation in this way is a great method of motivating voters at the grassroots level.”

He added that the district administration was constantly motivating the public to cast votes through various methods, including rallies and Nukkar Naatak, besides organising various types of competitions, such as poster-making, painting and elocution competitions, at school and college levels to generate awareness among young voters.

He said the campaign had targeted youngsters to make them aware of the power of franchaise, adding that first time voters on April 30 will be recognised with a certificate.
