Moving a step ahead in promoting paperless governance and to do away with the physical moment of documents, the administration has launched the facility of digital locker, an ambitious project of the Central government, which will enable people to store digitalised copies of important documents online.
The online personal space will be linked to the Aadhaar card number of each individual. This will also provide secure access to the government-related documents, making it easy for people to receive services.
The digital locker can be used to store e-documents as well as e-documents issued by various departments. The users - who will have to sign in to avail the service of digital locker - will also be provided the facility of digitally-signed e-documents.
Manju Aggarwal, district informatics officer (DIO), said people can get their digital locker activated at the common service centre (CSC) in their respective areas. "All CSC's - around 33 in the district - have been directed to assist residents in getting registered for digital lockers," said Aggarwal, adding each of the CSC had been given a target of enrolling at least 100 residents by June 22.
The residents can register on digitallocker.gov.in or digilocker.gov.in.
Talking about the benefits of a digi-locker, Aggarwal said residents could also store scanned or digitalised copies of important documents like academic certificates, driving licence, passport etc.
