A 47-year-old NRI suffered critical head injuries and had to be admitted to the ICU at a local hospital after he was allegedly beaten up by a group of about ten youths with sharp-edged weapons when they were asked to stop creating a ruckus outside his Phase 7 home.
However, the police have yet to file a criminal case against the youngsters, who are studying in local colleges and reside in a PG in the locality.
Narrating the incident, RPS Vig, president of the area residents welfare association, said the students, all of whom were evidently drunk, gathered outside Jaspal Singh Brar’s house at around 11:15 pm and began making a loud noise.
“When the latter objected they assaulted him, inflicting serious injuries on him. We’ve lodged several complaints about the incident with the police but no action has yet been taken,” he added.
However, the Mataur police SHO said since the victim was not in a position to get his statement recorded, a case had not been registered. “This is expected to be done tomorrow,” he added.
Brar, who arrived in the city from Canada early last month to perform the last rites of his father, was scheduled to fly back home on March 26.
