Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) VK Singh on Tuesday directed district election officers (DEOs) to review the deployment of paramilitary forces and utilise their services to check the flow of liquor and drugs at inter-state borders.

Bhagwant Singh, a subdivisional engineer (SDE) of the public works department (PWD), has been suspended for being absent from poll duty.

Interacting with the media, additional CEO Supreet Singh Gulati said the CEO had ordered the transfer of 19 officers after finding them violating the model code: Surinder Kaur, headmistress, Government High School, Gill village (Ludhiana); Paramjit Kaur, district education officer (DEO-secondary), Ludhiana; Ranjit Singh, DEO-elementary, Ludhiana; Gurbhej Singh, assistant junior engineer, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL); subdivisional magistrate (SDM), Patti, Rajiv Kumar Verma; Khamano SDM Arina Duggal; inspector, food and civil supplies, Rajwant Singh; PSPCL lineman Balwinder Singh; secretary, Market Committee, Faridkot, Karamjit Singh; and assistant registrar, cooperative societies, Dasuya, Gurpreet Singh; superintendent, municipal corporation, Amritsar Vishal Wadhawan; DSP, Ajnala, Sohan Singh; assistant lineman, PSPCL, Surjit Singh, posted at Tangra ( Amritsar); deputy registrar, Agricultural Multipurpose Services Society Ltd, Ashok Chadha; and tehsildar, Dera Baba Nanak, Sukhjinder Singh Tiwana; ASI Tarsem Singh; head constable Prem Singh; and panchayat officer, Kahnuwan, Sukhdev Singh.
