A week after a fire broke out at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELET), Sector 17, in which two fire fighters died due to collapse of the building, municipal corporation officials inspected the spot here on Saturday.
MC commissioner VP Singh, chief fire officer (CFO) Sunil Bhatia, MC chief engineer and Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) chairman Satya Gopal visited the site.
According to sources, owners of the building which collapsed will remove debris from the site themselves.
The estate office had written to the engineering department on June 6 seeking advice on whether it was safe to remove debris from the site. The estate office had also asked the engineering department to inspect the adjoining building and give a report on whether the building could be retrofitted. The UT administration had revoked section 144 of the CrPC imposed on other buildings in the row of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology.
