Thinking of going to Sector 17 for mega festival this Diwali? It may not be possible as shop owners are not organising it this year as well.
Earlier, Sector 17 was the main shopping plaza for all and even shop owners used to make much profit. Now, with numerous shopping options available across the tricity and even online, the actual number of those coming to Sector 17 for shopping has dropped.
Commenting on the situation, Darpan Kapoor, chairman, Business Promotion Council, Sector 17, said: "Sales are not as good as they used to be in the past. There are several reasons, including inflation, choices of customers and affect of online shopping websites. We have once again dropped the idea of holding a fair and waiting for the times to change as currently the business is not very good."
Earlier, when the fair used to be held in Sector 17, shop owners used to give discount coupons to shoppers and in the end the lucky draw winner used to get car in prize.
Citing reasons for not holding fair this year also, shop owners say due of decline in sales, they cannot afford to host such a fair and are not in a position to give out car as a prize.
Neeraj Bajaj, president, Business Council Promotion, Sector 17, said: "The reason for not reviving the fair is that now not many people are interested in discount coupons. Decline is number of customers is the primary reason for discontinuation of fair as Sector 17 is not the only shopping option for customers."
