The Panchkula police arrested one Aashish on Saturday for his involvement in the Jyoti murder case. This is the first arrest in the case.
The accused was produced in a local court on Sunday from where he was sent to police remand for one day.
Jyoti's was found dead at Sector 21 in Panchkula on November 22.
Aashish, who owns a mobile phone shop in Baddi, was arrested for supplying SIM cards on fake documents to the main accused in the case - newly elected Congress MLA from Doon area Ram Kumar Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary along with Gurmeet, Paramjeet alias Pummy, and Dharampal, all suspects in the case, are still at large.
Aashish's advocate has given a complaint to the court alleging that his client (Aashish) was unlawfully detained in illegal custody by the police, while his arrest was shown that on Saturday. The Panchkula police denied all allegations.
The police said on the day of murder, the location of some mobile phones belonging to the suspects was shown as Sector 21 near the murder spot. Five SIM cards were used and Ram Kumar along with other accused use to talk with Jyoti from these numbers and Baddi resident Aashish provided the SIM cards on fake documents to Ram Kumar and others.
On the other hand, two teams of Panchkula police conducted raids at Nalagarh, Solan and Shimla to nab Chaudhary and others.
The Baddi police have formed a team of eight members, including one inspector, one SI, one head constable and five constables, to conduct raids at the hideouts of the accused.
