A person was killed and two army bridges were swept away in flashfloods triggered by a cloudburst near Seri nullah, 27 kilometres from Manali, late Friday night.

The flashfloods, an official said, took place near the construction site of the strategically important Rohtang tunnel and a 12-metre stretch of the only road connecting Palchan village and Rohtang was also damaged in the calamity.

The body of Tenzing (his second name could not be ascertained) was found near Patlikuhl. The 22-year-old was on his way from Rangri to Kullu when he was swept away in the flooding nullah, the official added.

The spokesperson said "road restoration" would take another four days. "The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has begun work," Manali sub-divisional magistrate Balbir Thakur said. The road stretch was damaged due to massive erosion caused by the flooding of the Beas river.
Five condemned vehicles of the BRO, parked along the road, near Bhang nullah were also swept away. The loss caused by damage to roads, bridges and other property is estimated around Rs 8 crore.
