One held for raping minor girl near Kangra

The police on Monday arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly raping a minor girl near Kangra. The accused has been identified as Balbir Singh, a salesman at a liquor shop here.

According to the police, the incident took place on August 13 when the victim, a class 12 student, was returning home in a jeep after visiting her relatives. Police said the accused, who was travelling in the same jeep, started following the victim after she alighted from the jeep near her village.

He allegedly raped the girl as she walked through a secluded pathway near the village, police said. The police informed that the victim had narrated the incident to her family members, who had lodged a complaint at the Kangra police station on Monday.

The police arrested the accused and registered a case under section 376 of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police said investigations had been initiated into the case and they were yet to receive a report prepared after a medical examination of the victim.
