The higher education department, Haryana, has written back to colleges across the state including Panchkula that the online application system for admission to graduation courses has collapsed and aspirants will have to apply manually.

Inane-mail to colleges, from the director, the department informed that all e-challans generated so far were null and void. Earlier, the department had announced that this time admissions would be carried out online. As a a result, colleges did not get prospectuses and admission forms printed.

Admissions are now being conducted manually with the department’s failure to put the system online. The online system was launched with much fanfare on June 15 and the last date for availability of forms was June 30 at

The merit list was due to come out on July 3. SP Singh, principal of Government College, Sector 1, said, “The software hit some technical snag. If you left a column blank, then forms would not get submitted. Students have submitted forms without their choice of subjects.

There are also cases of students who have submitted 20 forms at once.” He said a message went out saying that the merit had been calculated. But again, a message went out saying that the merit was inaccurate. There are four colleges in Panchkula district which consist of 2,500 seats in total.
