For causing harassment to Sector-9 resident by delaying refund of cancelled order, the district consumer disputes redressal forum, Chandigarh, directed an online selling portal to pay Rs 2000 towards deficient services.
Ridhima Ohri alias Ridhima Kohli had approached the forum alleging deficiency in services against online shopping portal Yepme.com for delayed refund of the cancelled order.
In her complaint, Ridhima said on December 13, 2013, she placed an online order with Yepme.com for purchasing a cardigan worth Rs 599.
She said the delivery of the product was to be made within 4-6 working days. However, on December 17, 2013, when the delivery boy came to deliver the parcel, he demanded `599 towards the cost of the parcel even when the amount was paid online. However, the delivery boy took the parcel back. When the parcel was not delivered despite lodging compliant with the customer care, she cancelled the order and sought refund.
As none appeared on behalf of the online portal, they were proceeded ex parte.
The forum presided over by Rajan Dewan observed that no doubt the online portal refunded the amount but it was delayed.
The forum said, "We are of the view that the act of the online portal refunding the amount after numerous requests, certainly amounts to deficiency in service on its part. Merely because refund was made to the complainant will not absolve them of its liability to compensate the complainant for the harassment caused to her."
