The third auction for the remaining 105 liquor vends conducted by the UT excise and taxation department on Tuesday yet again failed to attract bidders as only 12 vends were sold.

There are a total of 217 vends, of which 93 were sold in the opening auction held on April 23. The second auction held on April 30 attracted only 21 buyers. For attracting bidders, the department had reduced the reserved price by 5%.

For 12 vends sold on Tuesday, the department received as many as 22 applications.

In the Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) category, liquor vend at Sector 22 fetched Rs 4.25 crore, while another vend in Sector 22 was sold for Rs 4.11 crore. The lowest bid in the same category was Rs 40 lakh for a vend at Daria village.

The department collected Rs 16.81 crore. The date of the auction for the remaining 81 vends will be announced after a meeting of the officials of the department.

The new allotted vends have been functioning since May 1. In the new excise policy, there has been a rise in the excise duty from 20% to 300% and that of assessment fee by 33%.
