Over 4,000 seats are up for grabs in the second round of the counselling for admission to Class 11 in the city’s government schools, reveals the latest data on the department’s website.
Sunil Bedi, a department official, said that out of total number of vacant seats, nearly 1,600 belong to general category while the rest are for the reserved categories. In the union territory, 15% seats are reserved for scheduled castes; 2% for the sports category; 3% for the physically challenged, 5% for children of defence personnel/paramilitary; 2% for children/grandchildren of freedom fighters and one additional seat per section for Kashmiri migrants.
The second round of counselling will begin on Wednesday; forms will also be available on the same day. The department has also uploaded a school-wise list of availability of the seats in various streams (see box).
According to the department’s data, very few seats remain vacant in leading government schools of the city. Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra, has only seven streams left in the science stream and two in the commerce stream.
Earlier this month, the school became the first to have record a cut-off of CGPA 10 for the science stream in the first round of counselling.
Department officials, however, said that with several candidates with the perfect 10 score on GMSSS, Manimajra’s waiting list, the cut-off for this School GMSSS-16 GMSSS - 19 GMSSS - 32
Science round is unlikely to go down in the second round.
On the other hand, GMSSS16 has 27 seats in the science stream in general category, while its commerce and humanities have six seats each. GMSSS-32, GMSSS-33, GMSSS-35, have 12, 17 and 32 seats, respectively, in the science stream (general category). Sources in the department said that the overall cut-off in the second round of counselling is likely to remain high due to the limited availability of seats.
PROCESS TO BEGIN FROM WEDNESDAY
Besides fresh applicants, candidates who have already been admitted to a government school and now seek a change of school or steam can also apply in this round.
Such candidates must fill up a form titled ‘Form for change of school/stream/option’, which is available, free of cost, at GMSSS- 10, GMSSS-20, GMSSS28, GMSSS-37, GMSSS-46 and GMSSS, Manimajra, and also be downloaded from the education department website: www. chdeducation.gov.in.
Meanwhile, fresh applicants need to fill up a registration form, available in the prospectus booklet which costs Rs 130 and can be purchased from any one of the six aforementioned schools.
Last date of submission of forms is July 18.The department will upload a final list indicating cut-off, allotment of schools and streams on July 24 on its website. Thereafter, candidates will be given two days for the submitting fees in the school at which they have been allotted seats. The department also plans to hold a third round from August 13 to 26 is seats vacant after the second round of counselling.
