Facing molestation charges from a married Sector 19 woman resident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Ravi Kant Swami first tried to turn the matter into one where he tried to show off his strength.

Swami’s supporters surrounded the police post of Sector 19, here in the morning, even as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (headquarter) Adarshdeep Singh had called the victim and the leader to the post to sort out the issue. Slogans were also raised and senior deputy mayor SS Nanda and deputy mayor Sunil Talwar were present when the ruckus was being created outside the police station. However, later in the day Swami apologised to the victim and the case was reportedly settled.

During the protest, however, supporters had alleged that the woman, who had claimed that he was sexually harassed by Swami on April 22, had previously made such allegations against other people. In her complaint against Swami, the complainant had alleged that even asking a PCR van for help did not come to her rescue that day as Swami continued to harass her. Some supporters even tried to enter the police post.

Later, with the protesters continuing to disperse the ACP decided to take the councilor and the victim to his office at the mini-secretariat Sector-1, where the strong police force found it relatively easy to deal with the protesters.
