To keep a check on kundi (illegal) connections, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (UHBVNL) has decided to release electricity connections in unauthorised colonies/slums in Panchkula.

The UHBVNL has received around 3,000 applications for electricity connections from slum residents. Giving details, local MLA Gian Chand Gupta said the state government has issued instructions for providing temporary connections to the residents of slum colonies.

Gupta said the government has laid down certain norms for the connections. The connections will be provided on a temporary basis and the consumer with such a connection would not be entitled to any right over the land or property. The energy meter of the connection will be installed on the pole outside the premises through a cable. Only a single phase connection will be given to such consumers.

Spelling out other conditions, Gupta said the connections would be charged at the tariff applicable to the category concerned of consumer and the colour of the bill will be different than the other bills.

Each applicant will have to submit an affidavit, stating that he/she shall be liable for any legal action regarding his premises by the local bodies department concerned. The applicant is required to submit an identity proof for getting the same.
