A paid parking contractor at Sector 34 was found fleecing visitors by overcharging. When an HT correspondent visited the Piccadilly (multiplex) parking lot, attendant Ravi was found charging Rs 20 instead of Rs 10 for four-wheelers.

When confronted, he said, “You pay only 10”, while he continued charging Rs 20 from others for one-hour stay. Speaking to HT, parking contractor Avatar Singh said, “I am not aware of the overcharging, but will check with the attendants.” However, when contacted, MC additional commissioner Sarita Malik said, “While we are conducting regular checks at all parking lots in the city, we will again inspect the said parking on Wednesday.”

In April this year, the MC had terminated the contract of the contractors of the parking lot outside Elante mall and Sukhna Lake, following HT reports highlighting fleecing of visitors by the private contractors and their staff. The notices were issued under clause number 38 of the terms and conditions of the allotment of licence deed. The civic body, in fact, rejected the three-month notice given by the contractors in question.
