In absence of a reaction from any political party on the formation of a panel to probe the land grab cases across Punjab, the Khalra Mission on Sunday said this was a right step of the Punjab and Haryana high court that would expose senior politicians of the state.

Welcoming the step, Khalra Mission president Paramjit Kaur Khalra pointed out that no political party or a senior politician reacted to the constitution of the panel and that showed all the need and urgency for such a commission.

The human rights body also demanded such a commission to probe the cases of land grab where the poor people including the Dalits had lost their small land holdings and assets to certain politicians or to the politically influential land grabbers in the state.

The high court had recently announced the 3-member commission headed by Justice (retd) Kuldip Singh, with senior lawyer PN Aggarwal and a retired district and session judge as its members.

The panel has been asked to probe within 4 months the land grab cases in the state, especially in the periphery of Chandigarh where the senior politicians and officers allegedly grabbed or purchased the lands through illegal means.
