Industries in Panipat suffered losses because of the strike call. Trade unions staged protests at various places in the district. Workers boycotted handloom, yarn and other industries.

“Export orders have suffered badly due to the strike. Fearing a backlash by the striking trade unions, several units were closed as safety precaution. Disruption in banking services has further hit the industry,” an industrialist, on the condition of anonymity, said.

Roadways employees of the Panipat depot stayed away from duty.

The effect of the strike was felt in Karnal as buses from here, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar depots plied. Buses from other depots reaching Panipat were packed to the capacity.

The police were deployment at important places in Karnal, including railway stations and bus stands, but no untoward incident was reported.

Employees of the electricity department and anganwari workers supported the strike call and staged protests.
