Panjab University (PU) has caught fancy of international students studying in India, said PU spokesman Vineet Punia here on Monday.
He said nearly 146 students from 15 different countries were studying in the university in session 2014-15.
In the previous session, as many as 140 students had enrolled themselves in the university.
Punia added international rankings have helped the PU in getting more attention at global level. Number of enquiries from international students through e-mail and facebook about the admission schedule had significantly increased, he added.
“Maximum numbers of international students are from Iran, Afghanistan, Canada and the US. Out of 146 students, 59 are girls,” said Punia.
He added that 55 foreign students were pursuing doctorate of philosophy (PhD) in various departments, including anthropology, biophysics, biotechnology, computer science and application, laws, economics, education, Gandhian studies and psychology.
BDS and BA LLB/BCom LLB had emerged as big draw for international students pursuing bachelor degrees. Most of the students in these courses were from Canada and the US.
As many as 21 students were studying in University Institute of Legal Studies, 15 were doing BDS from Dr HSJ Institute of Dental Sciences, three students were pursuing bachelor of pharmacy, three were doing undergraduate courses in economics and two students were doing bachelor in engineering from UIET.
