Meritorious girl students of the Department of Evening Studies -- Multi Disciplinary Research Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh, will be getting the hostel facility from current academic session. Earlier, there was no provision for hostel seats for them. "We have fought to get seats for our students. The seats are few," said Keshav Malhotra, chairman of evening studies department.
Also, there has been a good response of the students to the online admission process to various courses of BA-I, BCom-I (centralised) and MA- I (English, History, Economics, Political Science and Punjabi) for this academic session at the department. The department has introduced an online admission process, online fee deposit, online access to the library catalogue, smart identity-cum-library membership cards and SMS facility for faster communication with students and parents. Besides, the department is known to organise extension lectures, blood donation camps, cleanliness campaigns and other cultural activities from time to time.
The last date of online filing and submission of hard copy of the admission form to various courses has been extended to July 3. Around 1,000 students have registered online for admission to BA-I course alone.
The top three positions in MA- I (Economics) and Gold Medal in MA-II (Punjabi) 2013-14 in the University were bagged by the students of the department. The overall sports trophy of 2013-14 and 2014-15 of Inter College 'C' Division, Panjab University, was also bagged by the department.
