Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute is all set to be inaugurated on Saturday. The institute has been constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore in Sector-66 and is spread over an area of 8.82 acres. It would be inaugurated by union defence minister Manohar Parrikar and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The ex-servicemen in the city are all prepared to show black flags to Parrikar against non-implementation of one rank one pension by the government.
SAS Nagar deputy commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that all the necessary preparations for the inauguration have been completed.
He said that the institute would prepare girls hailing from Punjab for recruitment in armed forces.
The deputy commissioner said that a total of 25 girls have been selected for receiving training in the first batch. He said that this institute has been established on the pattern of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute and will have a swimming pool, hockey ground, basketball court and open air theatre. General IP Singh (retd) has been appointed as the director of the institute.
