Patiala, Namdhari set up title clash

Namdhari XI defeated Chandigarh Olympic Association 3-1, while Hockey Patiala outplayed Hockey Himachal 4-1 to advance to the final of the ongoing 5th edition of the Hockey India Senior Men National Championship being played in Pune on Tuesday.

In the first semifinals Namdhari XI started well creating pressure with incisive attacking moves.

Their efforts were rewarded when in the fourth minute Gagandeep Singh scored a field goal. Stung by the set-back, Chandigarh tried to equalise but were unable to cash on the half chances.

Just a minute away from the first half ’s end, Namdhari XI doubled the lead with captain Kuldeep Singh converting a penalty corner (29th minute). The second half saw both teams scoring one goal each. Gagandeep got the second goal of the match in the 44th minute, while Lovedeep reduced the margin for Chandigarh in the 52nd minute of the match.

In the second match, Hockey Patiala dominated the proceedings to register a convincing win. Patiala scored back-toback goals with first coming in the 10th minute of the game. Patiala opened its account with Manjinder Singh scoring a field goal.

The lead was doubled in the 16th minute of the match with Harwinder Singh making no mistake in cashing in on the penalty corner opportunity.

Just minute left into the first half, Hockey Patiala scored two back-to-back goals coming in the 29th and 30th minutes. Amritpal Singh and Ajay Kumar, respectively, made sure Patiala ended the first half leading 4-0. Himachal finally reduced the margin in the 47th minute with a penalty stroke conversion by Hardeep Singh.
