Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal felicitated Punjabis, especially the Christian community, on Christmas Eve here on Wednesday.
In his message, Badal said Christmas was an extremely joyous occasion not only for Christians but also for people of all faiths. He said the teachings of peace, love, amity and compassion preached by Jesus Christ were still relevant today.
The chief minister called upon the people of Punjab to commemorate this festival collectively with traditional fervour to depict their sense of commitment towards secularism in line with the ethos of “unity in diversity”.
Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal also greeted the people, saying that Christmas carried the spirit of brotherhood, peace and prosperity, and called upon the people to make the celebrations meaningful.
Akali ministers Bikram Singh Majithia, Sikandar Singh Maluka and Tota Singh, too, greeted the people on the occasion.
