Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked the state chief secretary to explore the possibility of doing away with the system of outsourcing the works related to sewerage and sanitation so that the interests of the workers employed by the municipal bodies were safeguarded, a spokesman said here on Thursday.

Presiding over a meeting with a delegation of ‘safai karamcharis’ (sewerage workers) from Moga here on Wednesday, Badal also expressed concern over the paltry salary paid to them by the contractors.

The chief minister asked chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal to meticulously study the entire system of outsourcing and suggest ways and means so that the workers on the job could be duly employed on a regular basis in the municipal corporations and committees across the state.
