The Punjab Cricket Association conducted open trials to spot young and talented pace and spin bowlers in the age group of 16 to 18 under the aegis of PCA cricket academy.
The open trials were held at Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda. The main purpose of the exercise was to spot talented bowlers who were otherwise missed out in the normal selection process.
In all, 825 youngsters participated, of which 576 were pace bowlers and 250 spinners. Video filming and speed gun were used to determine the requisite skills.
The selectors included an array of former test and first-class cricketers qualified coaches, physios and trainers.
Of the afore-mentioned aspirants 47 pace bowlers and 47 spinners were called to PCA stadium mohali for final selection on March 2 and 3.
After close scrutiny 12 pace bowlers and 11 spinners have been short listed for specialised training, the details of which are being worked out, at PCA cricket academy in Mohali.
