Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), which had conducted open trials to spot talented bowlers who otherwise could not come up through normal selection process, has now firmed up a list of nine fast bowlers and seven spinners in the 16-18 age group after a four-day camp of 23 shortlisted bowling aspirants.
According to PCA spokesman Sushil Kapoor, the final selection process was overseen by association secretary MP Pandove with inputs for fast bowlers given by coaches Yoginder Puri, Sukhwinder Singh Tinku, RP Singh and for spinners by Bharti Vij and Davinder Arora.
PCA Academy director Daljit Singh along with Pankaj Dharmani coordinated the whole process.
The 16 selected bowlers would be under the direct supervision of PCA academy and rotated in various age group camps to be held for specific category of bowlers.
In the first instance, four fast bowlers from this group would attend a camp at Amritsar for fast bowlers of the state. Those selected for the Amritsar camp are Parampal Singh (Gurdaspur), Gaurav Singh (Chandigarh), Rishab Sharma (Mohali) and Harpreet Singh (Ludhiana).
The other selected fast bowlers are Sompal (Patiala), Kamaljit Singh (Bathinda), Ajay Kumar (Fatehgarh Sahib), Rakesh Kumar (Mohali) and Ashish Kehair (Amritsar).
The selected spinners are Sukhjinder Singh, Bhupinder Singh (Amritsar), Davinder Singh and Anil (Chandigarh), Gurketan Singh (Mohali), Jatin Rana (Amritsar) and Jagdeep Singh (Ropar).
