The ruling National Conference (NC) on Monday accused the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) of "being socially and morally unacceptable because of corrupt actions of its leaders".
"The PDP has defied its tall rhetoric and melodramatic theatrics by finally getting drowned in the mud of numerous scandals and scams throughout the state," alleged NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu.
He said the Marhama land scam was just the tip of the iceberg. "There were hundreds of similar scandals running into hundreds of crores that have been patronised directly by the Mufti family," he alleged.
"Certain very clear revelations and allegations have been made that these scams have the direct patronage of the Mufti family and have perhaps been engineered directly by them for enormous financial kickbacks," he added.
The NC spokesman accused the PDP of "stooping to the level of introducing known criminals and mafia lords into politics in Srinagar."
"They (the PDP) are offering those as alternatives to Srinagar who had applied for more wine shop licences in the city despite the PDP publicly pretending to be concerned about social issues. They have introduced the most corrupt retired bureaucrats into politics to show the Mufti family ways and means to engineer more scams for their personal benefit," he said.
