The local police nabbed a 21-year-old student of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) University of Technology with five-gram Ganja at a check post at Phase 3A here on late Wednesday night.

The accused was identified as Himanshu Sharma, a resident of Sector 45, Chandigarh.

According to reports, the accused was accompanied with two of his friends in a car, which was stopped for checking at a check-post deployed by the police at Phase 3A.

On checking, the police found five grams of Ganja from Sharma's pocket. Two others were released on the spot after investigation.

The police said Sharma admitted to taking drugs since a while during investigations. A case was registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The police produced him before court on Thursday, from where he was released on bail.
