First project/break: Making sculptures for Darshan Museum, Pune, which is based on the life of sidhi guru Sadhu Vaswani

Claim to fame: Being the pioneer and the only one to make sculptures in silicon in India

Best part about being a sculptor: That I am a mirror for my subjects

The cause you care for: In India, artists cannot survive on their art alone. To earn their bread and butter, they have a full-time job on the side. We have such great talent in the country that is being suppressed because of the same reason. I'd like to do something to change that

With just six months left to live, I would... Do everything I've always wanted to do

What're you up to currently? I have come to Chandigarh to display the work I had done for DS Group Museum in Delhi. These days, I'm also busy meeting old friends

My motto: To share my ideas through work

My hero in real life: RM Singh

Beer or wine: Neither

If you wake up one day and realise you've turned into a woman, you would... I'm a very practical person, so I really don't know what I'd do

My biggest addiction: My work

Suggestion for budding sculptors: Be loyal and honest towards your work

Can't do without: Nothing

About him:

He has trouble listing out his body of work. The list, he says, is so long that he happens to skip names. The work he does remember, however, is worth a mention. Hailing from Dhuri (Sangrur), sculptor Gurpreet Singh did his BFA and MFA at the Government College of Art, Sector 10, Chandigarh, from 2003 to 2009. During college, Gurpreet has been a part of various national camps at Nagaland, Shanti Niketan, Calcutta, Udaipur etc. His art company, Dirty Hands Company, formed with four of his friends in 2008, is said to be India's first and only company to make sculptures in silicon medium. Currently based in Ahmedabad, Gurpreet is also making a niche in Bollywood with his work in prosthetics. Some Bollywood films that he has done prosthetics for are Raaz 3, Gangs of Wassepur 1 & 2 and Nil Madhab Panda's Jalpari, besides Tamil film Dance of Death. His upcoming films include Saif Ali Khan's production Finding Fanny Fernandes (featuring Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor), Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Bymkesh Bakshi and Darr @ The Mall (featuring Jimmy Shergill).
