With the NDA coming to power, local Bharatiya Janata Party councilor Saurabh Joshi has demanded resignation from city mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan of Congress on moral grounds on Tuesday.

In an open letter to the mayor, Joshi said, “Democracy is of the people, by the people and for the people. People have unanimously voted for change making BJP win in the Lok Sabha elections. Following the course of the country, Chandigarh residents too have declared their wish for change. Even the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor have been pocketed by the BJP/SAD alliance.”

“People wanted change and have brought it by completely uprooting the Cong ress. Let the horses have new reins and a new horseman. The mandate given by the Chandigarh voters surely indicates that they want a change in the Chandigarh municipal cor poration,” the letter added.

“BJP broke all the previous records and have won with a thumping margin of around 70,000 votes,” Joshi said.

Congress councillor, Pardeep Chhabra said, “If they believe that NDA has all power now, let them dissolve the house and remove the mayor. They should not show such lust for power.”
