A Sector-46 resident was booked after his pet dog bit a 10-year-old boy on Thursday evening.

The victim, Jagdish, was playing cricket on the road when the pet dog of Satbir, who runs a taxi business, bit him.

Residents complained to the Sector-34 police station, following which Satbir was arrested and booked under section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was later granted bail.

The child was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.

Neighbours said the dog had bitten two people earlier.

Victim’s father Jai Prakash said residents had been asking the pet owner to be careful as his dog was out on a biting spree, but he did not pay heed.

The owner of a pet as per section 289 of the IPC will be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to`1,000 or both.
