The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research and Education (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has been conferred two Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) Healthcare Excellence Awards for 2014 under the categories of medical technology and diagnostics, pathology laboratories.
PGIMER director Dr YK Chawla, head of medical microbiology department Dr A Chakrabarty and Prof GD Puri of department of anaesthesia received the awards from Prof K Vijay Raghavan, secretary, department of biotechnology and secretary, department of sciences and technology, during a function organised in New Delhi on Monday.
A PGIMER press release said these awards were evaluated on the basis of the problems faced, innovative solutions and benefits to patients, patient satisfaction and turnaround time for services provided, academic research and training, status of accreditation and contribution.
PGIMER was given the award for excellence in medical technology for "closed loop anaesthesia delivery system (CLADS)" design developed by Prof GD Puri and his team. CLADS was one of the seven shortlisted entries of a total of more than 50 entries for this award. The department of medical microbiology, PGI, has been conferred the award under the category of diagnostics, pathology laboratories. The department was accorded accreditation by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) in February and is the single largest public-sector facility in the country given full accreditation.
