PGI moving closer to having prepaid card system

For the convenience of patients, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, will introduce a prepaid smart card facility for quick and hassle-free payment of hospital charges.

According to PGIMER officials, as per the plan chalked out by the institute administration, when a patient is admitted to the hospital for treatment, he or she will have an option to deposit a fixed amount and against that he or she will be issued a smart card against the amount.

Sources reveal that the facility will be available for use at the counters for diagnostic and treatment facilities, at the the advanced eye centre and at the department of radio diagnosis. If it becomes successful, the scheme will be available across the hospital.

People will also have an option to swipe the card wherever required in both centres.

“The card will work like any other prepaid card and can be used for all kind of diagnostic, treatment and hospital charges,” said Chetan PS Rao, deputy director (administration), PGIMER.
He said the expression of interest from different companies would be called in a couple of days.

“We hope to start this facility soon,” he said.
