Bringing relief for indoor patients, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) will introduce single window system where samples of tests and fee can be deposited.
The project was started around two years ago but failed to take off the ground. Now, the PGIMER officials say that it will be made functional in next 10 days.
According to the PGIMER officials, the institute is going to open a fee counter in the Research Block-A where all kind of the samples are processed. The decision will be a big relief especially for the patients referred from the outside hospitals for various tests and the indoor patients.
According to the existing practice, the admitted patients are asked to take samples to Research Block, which houses eight departments, including microbiology, parasitology, cytology, pathology, virology, histopathology, immunopathology and biochemistry. These departments mainly offer diagnostic services for the patients.
Earlier, patients used to visit Research Block without depositing the fee for the tests and it was inconvenient for them and their attendants when the departments concerned would refuse to receive the samples and would ask them to deposit the fee first. The patients had to face tough time as they had to go to the New OPD Block, which is around one kilometre from the Research Block.
Often these patients would have to walk down to the OPD block as most of them are not much aware about the free shuttle service of the institute which is being run for the patients and attendants.
As per the new system, patients will have an option of depositing the fee and samples at the same place.
